What is the CAREA Scholarship?
The CAREA Scholarship was established in 1999 to recognize the academic accomplishments of the children of CAREA members and to assist and encourage them to continue their education.
Each year two (2) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded, one to the top male applicant and one to the top female applicant.
Who can apply?
Applicants for this scholarship must be residents of Alberta based on their parents address. At least one of their parents, or legal guardian, must be a member, in good standing, of the CAREA at the time of the application.
Applicants must be planning on enrolling in the first year of a full-time post-secondary program that is at least two (2) years long.
How are recipients chosen?
The recipients will be chosen by a selection committee. Applicants will be judged on their academic success, based on the average of their 5 highest grade 12 courses with a minimum three credit value and on their career goals essay.
What is needed to apply?
A completed application form is needed as well as a career goals essay. Candidates must also provide two letters of reference from individuals (teachers, employers, minister or coaches) describing the qualities that they feel the applicant displays which makes him/her an appropriate candidate for this award. Transcripts and any achievements in extra curricular and/or community activities should also be included. The career goals essay must be included on a separate sheet of paper. The essay must outline your study plans and career goals and it must be typed, double spaced and no longer than 1,000 words.

When do the applications need to be sent in by?
The application deadline is July 1st for students planning to enroll in the following September. Applications received after the deadline can not be considered.
